SHOP WITH A COP CHARITY

December 2020, Nevada At the Wendover Nugget in West Wendover, Nevada, Maverick Cares has partnered again with the local police department to support their annual Shop With a Cop charity fundraiser. The Shop With a Cop charity was established 27 years ago and supports underprivileged children during the holidays in the Elko, Eureka, and Lander county regions. Prior to COVID-19, each year, over 100 kids were selected in the program and meet in Elko. The kids receive a new coat, go to breakfast with police officers, and take a picture with Santa. They then convoy in emergency vehicles to Walmart, while the kids get to push the buttons for the lights and sirens the whole way. In the past few years, Santa has flown above the convoy in a helicopter. Once they get to Walmart, they grab a cart and shop, shop, shop! The kids get to spend $200 each. The gifts are wrapped by volunteers, loaded up, and the kids are returned home with their gifts. Similar to last year, the Wendover Nugget hosted a poker tournament in the newly remodeled Ace’s Poker room to raise money for the charity. With health and [READ MORE...]
